Matariki at Matakana Village - Wai, Kai & Kapa Haka
Matariki at Matakana Village – Wai, Kai & Kapa Haka
Friday 20 June 2025 | 11am – 3pm | Free entry
Gather riverside in the heart of Matakana Village for a joyful celebration of Matariki – a time to reflect, connect and welcome the Māori New Year together.
Enjoy a day filled with powerful kapa haka, delicious kai, storytelling, weaving (by koha), face painting, and interactive activities for all ages. This year, we honour wai – water, the lifeblood of our whenua. In partnership with Ngāti Manuhiri Settlement Trust and Friends of Awa Matakanakana (FOAM), we reflect on our deep connection to our rivers, estuaries and moana – and how we can care for them into the future.
There’ll be a vibrant village of craft and food stalls, a remembrance tree, and a live riparian planting demonstration across the river. It’s a free, whānau-friendly event, open to all – come for the whole day or drop in when you can.
